One of the largest cities in Wales, Newport is nestled on the banks of the River Usk and is on the opposite bank of the Severn from Bristol in England. Newport has many sights to offer visitors from the famous Transporter Bridge to the remains of the Newport Castle to Tredegar House and its country park. Located in a fantastic location for exploring the surrounding region, nearby sites include Caerwent and Penhow Castle. Newport is bordered to the north by the M4 motorway that links Cardiff and Swansea to Bristol and London. The A4042 takes travellers directly into the Brecon Beacons National Park. Newport has fantastic rail connections and is on the Swansea/Cardiff to London line and the regional line to Hereford. The closest airport, Cardiff International, is located less than an hour away. Aside from the generic national-chain hotels that Newport has a number of, the town also enjoys a handful of boutique style hotels. Budget accommodation is also available, with guest houses and bed and breakfasts quite numerous.
