As one of the closest towns to London, Reading is often thought of as a commuters paradise. The picturesque urban centre has much more to offer than its road and rail connections to the nations capital, however, with the Reading Abbey ruins, Reading Museum, Silchester Roman town and Basildon Park proving popular with tourists. Reading is in easy reach of London Heathrow airport along the M4 motorway, to which it is also connected by rail. The M4 continues to the west passing through to Swindon, Bristol and Cardiff before terminating on the Welsh west coast in Swansea. To the east the M4 leads directly into London. The Reading train station has regular connections to all of these urban centres. There are plenty of hotels in and around Reading, though finding accommodation around the time of the Reading music festival can prove challenging. If you are planning on travelling through the region at this time, or attending the festival itself, make sure you book well ahead of time!
